Railways dedicate ward for coronavirus suspects in New Delhi

Northern Railway Central Hospital has set up a dedicated ward for clinically suspected cases of the novel coronavirus in New Delhi, said the Railways on Tuesday. Northern Railway spokesperson Deepak Kumar said that the ward has protective disposable dress for both paramedics and patients. This came a day after two new cases of the virus were reported in India.

India asks private radio, TV channels to spread coronavirus awareness

The government has directed all private radio and TV channels to give "adequate publicity" to travel advisory issued by the Health Ministry after India reported four new coronavirus cases. The awareness campaign will involve running tickers and discussing dos like observing hygiene and respiratory etiquette and don'ts like keeping close contact with people if you have cough and fever.

Coronavirus patient dines at Hyatt Regency Delhi; staff to self-quarantine

The Hyatt Regency Delhi has said that an individual, who dined at a restaurant in the hotel on February 28, has been diagnosed with coronavirus. All employees who were present on that day have been asked to self-quarantine for 14 days. The hotel has started conducting daily temperature checks for employees and contractors when they enter and exit the building.

Air India asks passengers who flew with coronavirus patient to follow protocols

Air India has asked all passengers who flew on AI154 Vienna-Delhi flight on February 25 to follow Health Ministry protocols after one flyer tested positive for coronavirus. The patient, a 45-year-old man, had travelled to Italy, which has 1,835 confirmed cases. Earlier, all crew members of the flight were asked to stay in isolation at their homes for 14 days.

Iran-returned Army officer isolated in Madhya Pradesh over coronavirus fear

An Army officer was admitted to the isolation ward of a military hospital at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh for suspected exposure to coronavirus after returning from Iran. The 32-year-old officer returned on February 25 from Tehran and was admitted to hospital after he complained of sore throat. His samples were sent for tests to National Institute of Virology in Pune.

Karnataka Assembly was adjourned on Monday after arguments over BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal's statement describing 101-year-old freedom fighter HS Doreswamy as "fake freedom fighter" and "Pakistani agent". Congress leader Siddaramaiah raised the issue in Assembly which was opposed by BJP leaders for not giving prior notice for discussion. The Assembly was adjourned after protests continued.

CISF provides sanitisers, masks to personnel at airports amid coronavirus scare

The CISF has provided medical kits containing hand sanitisers, gloves and masks to all its personnel deployed to guard 62 civil airports in the country in view of the coronavirus scare. Officials said as the personnel have close physical interaction with the passengers by way of frisking them, it has been ordered that medical kits be used at all airports.

Over 20 Italians, 3 Indians quarantined at ITBP camp in Delhi over coronavirus

Over 20 Italian tourists and three Indian tour operators were sent to ITBP quarantine facility in Delhi on Tuesday for suspected exposure to the novel coronavirus, PTI quoted official sources as saying. Their samples will be collected for testing on Wednesday. The facility also houses people who were evacuated by an IAF plane from coronavirus outbreak epicentre Wuhan, China.

Cat in Chennai faces deportation to China over coronavirus fears

A cat in Chennai, which arrived from China over 20 days ago, may be deported back on suspicion of it having coronavirus. The cat has been held at the Chennai port from China, where they are killed for meat and fur. However, PETA India has said that it has been scientifically confirmed that cats cannot contract or transmit coronavirus.

Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu has said that 25 people in Bengaluru, who had come in contact with the 24-year-old software engineer who tested positive for coronavirus in Hyderabad on Monday, have been quarantined in their homes for 14 days. Sriramulu added that most of the samples tested among these 25 people have come back negative.

The seventh case of coronavirus was reported in India on Tuesday. The wife of an Italian tourist, who had tested positive for coronavirus in Jaipur on Monday, has also tested positive today. Rajasthan health department said that her sample was sent to Pune for further confirmation, meanwhile, her husband is in an isolation ward of Jaipur's SMS Hospital.

Delhi designates 25 hospitals for coronavirus; Sisodia says no need to panic

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday said that Delhi government has designated 25 hospitals for the treatment of coronavirus, apart from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital which are the designated nodal hospitals. Sisodia said there was no need to panic as there was only one confirmed case of coronavirus in Delhi.

Hyd coronavirus victim's B'luru roommate not isolated or hospitalised

The roommate of the 24-year-old man, who tested positive for coronavirus in Hyderabad, wasn't placed in home isolation as he didn't show any symptoms, said the medical officer who investigated the apartment in Bengaluru where the patient had stayed. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases doctors also said that his roommate was sent back home as he was found asymptomatic.

An autorickshaw driver was arrested on Monday for masturbating at a college student in Mumbai, said police. The student shared a video of the incident and it reportedly went viral. The man masturbated while looking at the girl through rear-view mirror while ferrying her to NK College in Malad, she alleged. The incident was shared by Mumbai Police on Twitter.

Searches in Chennai-based business firm have revealed hidden cloud servers and unaccounted income over ₹400 crore, the IT Department said. Moreover, a pen drive with a large sum of encrypted data along with property documents, promissory notes and post-dated cheques were also found. The business deals in non-ferrous metal processing in lead, copper and aluminium.

Shahrukh, who pointed gun at policeman during Delhi violence, arrested from UP

Shahrukh, the man who pointed a gun at a Delhi Police personnel during the violence has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh. He is a resident of Karawal Nagar in northeast Delhi and was arrested by the Crime Branch, said Delhi Police. The death toll in the violence reached around 47 on Monday and over 350 people were injured.

Woman giving birth after twins can't avail maternity benefits: Madras HC

Madras High Court has ruled that a working woman who gives birth to a child in second delivery after twins in first, is not entitled to maternity benefits. The court said that the child born in second delivery should be treated as third child. This comes after an appeal by the government following a leave claim by a CISF member.
