Percy Harvin Wants to Return to NFL after three seasons

Percy Harvin

Percy Harvin Former NFL wide receiver said he’s “ready to return” to the NFL after spending three seasons away from the league. Harvin, who has not played since the 2016 season and battled numerous injuries throughout his career, told that he is “ready to return to the NFL.”

“I thought I have done, but that itch came back. I’ve been training with a former Olympian. My body is feeling good. Mentally I’m better. My family is good. The timing is right ” Harvin told on Tuesday. Harvin, who turns 32 next month, retired for a second time in March 2017 after playing in two games the previous season with the Buffalo Bills.

Just last summer, he put his wife and two kids on a private plane for vacation and had to lay on the floor to get comfortable. Percy was leaning to one side so often when walked that severely developed calluses on one foot and he couldn’t get up and down stairs without using the handrail. Surgery was the turning point. So was his training that followed. He ended up working with former Olympian Tim Montgomery at NUMA Speed in Gainesville and calls the 2000 gold medalist sprinter the best trainer he’s ever dealt .He started running four miles a day, got strength and power back in his legs through squats, then found the hip flexibility that eluded him for years.

Harvin’s agent told to ESPN at the time that Harvin was “done” playing. Harvin helped spark the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl XLVIII win over the Denver Broncos with an 87-yard kickoff-return touchdown. He played college football for Florida, helping the program win BCS national titles in 2006 and 2008. The Minnesota Vikings selected him with the No. 22 selection in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft.

Earth Day 2020: 5 Fun Activities For Kids

Portrait of little girl biting in cucumber

As we welcome Earth Day 2020 here are some fun activities you can do with your kids as you stay at home waiting out Coronavirus to pass.

The goal in all of these activities is to teach kids about the Earth, how to recycle, ways to be safe outside, and how to enjoy the outdoors.

5 Fun Earth Day Activities For 2020!
Plant A Tree

The first activity we recommend is the simple action of planting a tree, this can help teach your kid how things grow and hopefully encourage them to plant more trees. Recent studies have found that planting more trees can help fight climate change.

The next fun activity is simply going outside and finding some nature to enjoy. It doesn’t have to be some spectacular National Park, simply going out and enjoying a wooded area, some nature trails or a walk along a stream does the trick. Teaching your kids to enjoy nature and find fun activities while in nature can help them detach from social media and technology and learn self-play.

Next up we have a great video that shows kids how they can recycle and the importance of recycling. They will also learn how food decomposes and what that means. Most families can segregate their trash into three categories, recycling, food waste that can be composted, and trash that will go to the landfill.

What President Trump Gets Wrong About Harvard

The White House Holds Daily Briefing On Coronavirus Pandemic

President Trump made news yesterday in his daily coronavirus briefing when he said that Harvard University would have to pay back the nearly $9 million they received from the CARES Act. “They shouldn’t be taking it. When I saw Harvard—they have one of the largest endowments anywhere in the country, maybe the world. They’re going to pay back the money,” Trump said. But he got a few things wrong.

First, Trump insinuated that Harvard University received the money under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) — a loan program for small businesses, a portion of which are forgivable. The White House Twitter account even tweeted the video of his comments and added, “they will not keep money intended for small business loans.”

The money Harvard received from the CARES Act was from the Education Stabilization Fund that helped institutions of higher education. They received a portion of the approximately $14 billion Congress allocated to higher education and did not draw from the same pool of funds small businesses did, as the White House tweet says.

The Education Stabilization Fund money is allocated to institutions through a formula based on their share of students not exclusively online, with a weighted preference to schools serving larger percentages of Pell Grant students. At least half of the funds going to institutions must go to students in the form of emergency grant aid. Harvard has said they will use all of the funds to provide financial assistance to students.

As a non-profit, Harvard could have applied for the PPP loans but they didn’t. Many non-profit colleges—and likely some for-profits—have applied and received money.

Certainly, it’s fair to ask why institutions with large endowments and vast resources are receiving money. Many would say that money should go to a public community college first. They definitely need the money more.

It seems part of the issue was the Congress opted for simplicity, rather than excluding certain sectors or having Secretary DeVos decide who gets funds and who doesn’t. But it’s important to remember that, although Harvard has many students from wealth, Harvard’s students are not immune to the impacts of the coronavirus.

It is also not as simple, as some have suggested, for schools to use their endowment money to cover expenses. Endowment funds are often restricted and hard to access. Plus, with the economic fallout of the coronavirus many colleges have seen major losses in their endowments.

But it’s also unclear why President Trump chose to single out Harvard. Schools like the University of Pennsylvania—his alma mater—have large endowments and got similar amounts of money. Liberty University, a private college ran by the staunch Trump supporter, Jerry Falwell, received over $15 million in CARES Act funds. And for-profit colleges like the University of Phoenix were included. It received nearly $7 million after agreeing to pay millions in an FTC settlement. (Phoenix also says they will use 100 percent of the money for direct financial assistance for students, though it is unclear how they are doing so.)

Institutions have already asked for more money in the next round of coronavirus relief. This scrutiny could change the way Congress allocates any more funds that go to higher education. Many would be pleased if the funds excluded all private colleges, especially for-profits.

Video: Tony Gonzalez jokes about making NFL comeback after Rob Gronkowski’s return

Tony Gonzalez, Rob Gronkowski, Chiefs

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski made headlines with his decision to come out of retirement. It seems his return has provided some added motivation for Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez.

Gonzalez may be joking, however, he still looks like he is still more than capable of suiting up on Sundays. Although he is well into his retirement, it is safe to say that quarterback Patrick Mahomes would be able to make do.

Before Gronkowski, Tony Gonzalez had served as the league’s premier tight end thanks to a rare combination of size and speed that made them a matchup nightmare for smaller defenders in the passing game.

Gonzalez may own all the best individual tight end receiving records even to this day, but Gronkowski was able to counter by racking up three Super Bowl wins. He will now be looking to add to his impressive resume by starting a new chapter alongside quarterback Tom Brady in Tampa Bay.

But for the Buccaneers to win a championship, they may have to find a way to slow down Tony Gonzalez and the Chiefs.

Patriots trade Rob Gronkowski to Buccaneers for fourth-round pick

The New England Patriots have agreed to trade Rob Gronkowski to the Buccaneers in a deal that reunites the retired tight end with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay.

Gronkowski's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Tuesday on SportsCenter that the five-time Pro Bowler has been "really invigorated" physically since he retired from football nearly 13 months ago.

"He tells me he feels fantastic, the best he's ever felt," Rosenhaus said. "His weight's back up to 260. He passed his physical with flying colors today. He's just really excited about playing football again, and being in Florida is exciting for him."

Gronkowski told Fox Sports in a text message: "I'm back. I always said when I have that feeling and it feels right, I will be ready to take the field again. And I have that feeling. I'm ready."

Most Receiving TDs From Tom Brady

The 78 touchdowns Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski connected on were the most in the NFL from 2010 to 2018. They are also twice as many as Brady has thrown to any other player.

Gronkowski, who turns 31 next month, has one year and $9 million remaining on his contract.

The Buccaneers announced the details of the trade in a news release Tuesday. New England will receive a fourth-round pick (No. 139 overall) in this week's draft, and Tampa Bay will also receive a seventh-round pick (No. 241 overall).

"Rob Gronkowski is one of the best tight ends in NFL history and he plays the game with the type of passion and desire that sets him apart," Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said in a statement. "Rob has played his entire career alongside Tom Brady, and their accomplishments speak for themselves. Together they have developed the type of chemistry on and off the field that is crucial to success."

Tampa Bay was the only team Gronkowski was willing to end his retirement to play for, a league source told Schefter.

Rosenhaus noted on SportsCenter that "playing with Tom Brady obviously is huge" and said Gronkowski contacted him about joining Brady after the star quarterback left the Patriots for the Buccaneers last month.

"Shortly after Tom Brady went to Tampa, Rob and I had a conversation that this is a situation that would be appealing to him," Rosenhaus said. "Obviously, this was a deal that New England had to feel good about, Tampa had to feel good about. This wasn't just about Rob. All the parties involved had to be in agreement."

Brady had some fun with Gronkowski's return in a video he tweeted Wednesday morning, blowing a conch shell to call in the tight end who ran in and said, "A little tired, but Gronk reporting."

Gronkowski announced his retirement on March 24, 2019, after a nine-year career during which he won three Super Bowls with New England and was one of the league's most colorful personalities.

Like Brady, Gronkowski hasn't played for any team other than the Patriots.

Barnwell's trade grades: Why Gronk put the Patriots in a bind, and the Bucs won

Rob Gronkowski joins ranks of notable athletes to come out of retirement

WWE: Gronk must defend 24/7 belt 'at all times'
"He loves New England," Rosenhaus said. "He loves the Patriots organization, coach [Bill] Belichick, the Krafts, his teammates that are still there. He had an amazing run in New England.

"It was just time for him to continue his career with Tom Brady in Florida, with Tampa. It was something cool and exciting and challenging to him. He's well-rested and looking forward to playing with Tom again."

New England fans could have a chance to watch Gronkowski and Brady up close again if they are both still with the Bucs in 2021, when Tampa Bay is scheduled to play the Patriots in Foxborough.

Brady, who signed a two-year deal worth $50 million with Tampa Bay, will enjoy arguably his best collection of passing targets in more than a decade with Gronkowski now in the fold. Tampa Bay has O.J. Howard, the subject of multiple recent trade rumors, and Cameron Brate at tight end and Pro Bowl wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Licht was asked about Gronkowski during his pre-draft news conference last week.

"Well, he's doing a pretty good job with WrestleMania right now," Licht said, referring to Gronkowski's 24/7 title won earlier this month at WrestleMania 36. "I have no idea if he would want to play. I'll keep this on the draft right now because that's like asking about another player on another roster."

Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians is not known for extensive use of the tight end in the vertical passing game, but the trade is an example of how Brady's presence could impact Arians' playbook. Arians and Brady have both mentioned how excited they are to collaborate.

The Patriots currently have two tight ends on their roster -- Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo -- and the position projects as one of their top needs.

New England owns the No. 23 pick in the draft and then doesn't pick again until 87th overall, in the third round.

News of Tuesday's trade impacted futures betting on the Buccaneers at Caesars Sportsbook, where Tampa Bay's odds of winning the Super Bowl improved from 17-1 to 14-1. The Bucs' odds of winning the NFC also slightly improved from 8-1 to 7-1 at Caesars.
