The Uttar Pradesh government has said that people, organisations and political parties will be permitted to organise peaceful protest but "strict action will be taken against those who indulge in violence and destroy public property". Sweden allows employees take 6 months leave to start own business

Sweden, under the Right to Leave to Conduct a Business Operation Act, allows employees to take up to six months of unpaid leave to start their own company. Anyone who's been in full-time employment for at least six months is entitled to apply. The leave can only be denied if the business idea was in competition with the employer's business.

NASA flights detect millions of Arctic methane hotspots

In a new study, researchers have explained how NASA's Arctic Boreal Vulnerability Experiment discovered two million methane hotspots in a series of more than 400 airplane rides in 2017. Overall, the team covered 20,000 square miles of land and took roughly 1 billion observations. The team observed that most of these hotspots are closest to bodies of water.

Scientists analysing the genomes of West Africans have detected signs that a mysterious extinct human species interbred with our own species tens of thousands of years ago in Africa. The University of Central Florida researchers have shown that by combining two nanomaterials into a new superstructure, they could create a nanoscale device that mimics the neural pathways of brain cells used for human vision. The first phase of the Census 2021 in Haryana will be conducted from May 1 to June 15, an official said. Nearly 93,000 BSNL, MTNL employees opt for voluntary retirement scheme

Nearly 93,000 employees including over half of BSNL's employees and nearly 80% of MTNL's employees have opted for the voluntary retirement scheme offered by the central government. The move will reduce BSNL's wage bill by about 50% while MTNL wage expenses will come down by about 75%, an official said. The government had unveiled a revival scheme for the companies.

Airtel offers to pay ₹10,000 crore by February 20, balance by March 17

Airtel on Friday said it will deposit ₹10,000 crore in Supreme Court-ordered dues with the Department of Telecommunications by February 20 and the balance by next date of hearing on March 17. "You will appreciate this (self-assessment) is a complicated process, covering 22 circles, multiple licences and a substantial period of time and hence, is time-consuming," Airtel informed the DoT.

Indian pulse imports could drop 60% to 1 mn tonnes in FY21: Trade body

India's pulse imports may slump 60% to a million tonnes in 2020-21 if the current curbs on imports continue amid bumper domestic production, the India Pulses and Grains Association said. In the 2018-19 crop year, domestic production was 23.4 million tonnes. In 2016-17, record imports of pulses led to a crash in domestic prices after which government introduced import quotas.
