NCW seeks explanation as college asks girls to remove their undergarments
National Commission for Women (NCW) took cognisance of media reports of an incident wherein female students were asked to remove inner-wear to prove they weren't menstruating. 42-year-old man gets life in jail for killing drunk person
A Mumbai court sentenced a 42-year-old man to life imprisonment for killing a person who was drunk at the time. Pradeep Varekar was found guilty of killing Rupesh Mayaker near the latter's house in Ghatkopar in June, 2016. The Department of Telecommunications has asked telcos to repay past dues by 11.59 pm today in order to comply with an October verdict of the Supreme Court. Airtel owes about ₹35,000 crore while Vodafone Idea's dues cross ₹50,000 crore. The department also withdrew its January 23 order in which it had decided not to take coercive action against the operators.

A Russian court fined social media sites Facebook and Twitter 4 million roubles (over ₹44 lakh) each on Thursday for their failure to comply with a 2014 Russian data law, the RIA news agency reported. The Tagansky District Court in Moscow fined Facebook and Twitter for its refusal to put its server holding data about Russian citizens inside Russian territory.

Researchers at USA's Princeton University have come up with a new mathematical technique to describe the behaviour of several cellular enzymes. The study, published in Current Biology, will help determine how genetic mutations change behaviour of these enzymes to cause a range of human diseases, including cancer. For the model, scientists analysed 'multisite phosphorylation reactions' of enzymes.

Over 60,000 people have been infected by coronavirus globally. China's National Health Commission said that a total of 59,804 cases have been reported in the country and the death toll there has risen to 1,367. China's Hubei province, the epicentre of the coronavirus, reported a record 242 new deaths and nearly 15,000 fresh cases in a single day on Wednesday.
