China recalls George Fernandes' help during 2003 SARS outbreak

Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong on Tuesday recalled 2003 visit by India's then-Defence Minister George Fernandes to Shanghai amid the SARS outbreak that killed at least 780 in China. He added Fernandes had also criticised the foreign media for exaggerating the outbreak's impact. Weidong further said that Fernandes had even instructed the Indian Army to donate medicines to China.

HSBC to cut 35,000 jobs over three years
