Chaos and traffic jam at McDonalds opening

Most McDonalds branches in Austria have been opening since today: Long lines are already forming in front of the drive-in counters before the official opening.

When are the McDonald's branches open again?

From Monday, April 20, the American fast food chain McDonald's in Austria will gradually unlock again. However, almost 70 branches open at first. 

Which branches will open?

Initially, around half of the 134 McDrive locations will open, where food can be picked up by car through a hatch. The rest are to follow in a second phase. The company announced online which locations will be unlocked first. Below you can see all open restaurants at a glance. 

Can I also order from McDonald's without having to go through the drive-in?

Yes. Because not only open the drive-in branches. The McDelivery meal delivery is also in operation. Here you can order comfortably from home. Particular attention is paid to the hygienic regulations. "The protection of our employees and guests is an absolute priority," said McDonald's Managing Director Nikolaus Piza in a press release. The innovations include cash spills and extended ATM cash registers for contactless payment at McDrives and complement the already very high McDonald's hygiene and quality standards, among other things, mandatory mouth and nose protection and new distance regulations for working in the kitchen ensure the safety of employees.

Are the opening times the same as before the crisis? 

No. Due to the current requirements of the authorities, the McDonald's branches also have shorter opening hours. Most restaurants are initially open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. A few even longer. 

Will the offer stay the same?

Hannelore Elsner (1942-2019) died on April 21, 2019 at the age of 76 in a clinic in Munich. "It is an insane loss that she is no longer there. She was so fit and I never thought it would happen so quickly," recalls Mandoki. "I am very grateful that I was able to gain this experience with her."

The last new film with Hannelore Elsner is called "Long live the Queen". The tragicomedy runs on April 29 at 8:15 p.m. in the first. Lara Mandoki will soon be seen in the novel "The Song of the Dead Girls" as journalist Stefanie "Mütze" Schneider.
