Sensex falls 450 points, rupee slips against US dollar ahead of Trump's visit

Indian equity benchmark index Sensex fell by around 450 points in early trade ahead of US President Donald Trump's visit on Monday. The Indian rupee opened 24 paise lower at 71.89 against the US dollar. IT stocks including Infosys, Tech Mahindra and TCS gained between 0.5% to 1% each.

Sensex ends over 800 points lower at 40,363, Nifty below 11,850

Sensex tanked 806 points to end at 40,363.23 while the broader Nifty50 index fell 251 points to slide below the 11,850 mark on Monday amid growing concerns over the spread of coronavirus. Rupee also weakened to about 2-month low against the US dollar, falling to 71.90 against the US dollar. All the sectoral indices on NSE were in the red.

Jio cut data charges down to ₹12 from ₹300 per GB: Ambani to Satya Nadella

In a conversation with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in Mumbai on Monday, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said, "Pre Jio, price of per GB data was ₹300-₹500." Ambani added, "For the poorest of poor, who use 2G, the price was as high as ₹10,000 per GB." Ambani claimed that post Jio, the price is between ₹12 and ₹14 a GB.
